The Zambia Association on Employment for Persons with Disabilities (ZAEPD) is a parent-based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) whose children and adults with intellectual disabilities are either attending or have completed vocational skills training in Tevet accredited institutions.
The formation of ZAEPD by the parents/guardians of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities came upon a realization in the rising numbers of learners with intellectual disabilities dropping out of school due to learning challenges they encounter.
With this situation, hands-on courses in vocational skills training like carpentry, general agriculture, food production, tailoring, hand weaving among others becomes an alternative. The equipping of persons with intellectual disabilities with survival skills enables them to lead independent lives and also support their families and society at large.
